Explosion reported near finish line of Boston Marathon. Breaking News!

JD has manny friends in this rase and we pray to God they are ok.

New Live Video.

By Erin McClam, Staff Writer, NBC News

Two explosions were heard near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday, witnesses told NBC News.

Will Ritter, the spokesman for a Massachusetts Senate candidate, said that he heard what sounded like two explosions and saw smoke rising near the Boston Public Library. He said that he saw three fire engines and police running to the site.

“We heard two really large explosions in rapid succession, about a second apart from each other,” Ritter said. “Everybody kind of ducked and hit the ground.”

Janet Wu, a reporter for NBC affiliate WHDH, told NBC News that she heard two loud explosions. Jackie Bruno, a reporter for New England Cable News, said on Twitter that she saw people’s legs blown off.

“Runners were coming in and saw unspeakable horror,” she said.

Boston police confirmed there was an incident but did not immediately give details. Police, fire and medical technicians were responding. New England Cable News reported that the emergency response came within seconds.

Explosions On Boylston Street Near Boston Marathon Viewing Stands

BOSTON—

Two explosions struck the Boston Marathon as runners crossed the finish line on Monday, witnesses said, injuring an unknown number of people on what is ordinarily a festive day in the city.

Police reported at least one explosion and witnesses said there were two, which hit as spectators were cheering on runners finishing the race.

Reporters in the media centre heard two blasts.

“There was an explosion. Police, fire and EMS (emergency medical services) are on the scene, we have no indication of how many people are injured,” a spokeswoman for the Boston Police Department said.

Mike Mitchell of Vancouver, Canada, a runner who had finished the race, said he was looking back at the finish line and saw a “massive explosion.”

Smoke rose 50 feet (15 metres) in the air, Mitchell said. People began running and screaming after hearing the noise, Mitchell said.

“Everybody freaked out,” Mitchell said.

Television images showed ambulances, fire trucks and dozens of police vehicles near the finish line.

Hundreds of thousands of spectators typically line the 26.2 mile (42.19 km) race course, with the heaviest crowds near the finish line. The blasts occurred more than five hours after the start of the race, at a time when most top athletes were off the course but slower amateur marathoners were still running.

The transit agency shut down all service to the area, citing police activity.

Ambulances arrived on the scene within minutes and runners and spectators could been crying and consoling each other.

After he finished the New York City Marathon in 2006, Lance Armstrong called the marathon “without a doubt the hardest physical thing I have ever done.” But it didn’t stop the seven-time Tour de France champion from attempting the race again the following year. He trained a little better in 2007, which resulted in a better time and less pain.

After marathon runners manage to beat Oprah’s time, they often set their sights on another famous marathoner’s time — former U.S. president George W. Bush. But it’s not an easy feat –- Bush is no chump when it comes to running.

Ed Norton, 2009 New York City Marathon (3:48:01)

Actor Ed Norton, well known for his roles in American History XPrimal Fear, and Fight Club, ran the New York City Marathon in support of the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust, which supports the preservation of biodiversity within the Maasai tribal lands of East Africa. He was posting updates and asking for donations on Twitter, even as he started the marathon. But he definitely put his phone down at some point, finishing in a very strong time.

The Green Lantern actor ran the New York City Marathon like a true superhero, completing the race in an impressive time, and doing it as a member of the Michael J. Fox’s Foundation for Parkinson Research’s Team Fox in honor of his father, who has Parkinson’s Disease.

I passed funny man Will Ferrell in the 2003 Boston Marathon and he wasn’t cracking jokes — this guy is a serious runner! (And his time shows it!) I’m sure everyone around him was grateful that he was running in clothes, unlike his character in that infamous scene from Old School.

I have to give it to music mogul Sean “P. Diddy” Combs. He trained for only about two months, was running on a bum knee, and still managed to pull out a sub-4:15 marathon. He also raised $2 million for children’s charities and New York City public schools in the process.

He took his time in the 2002 Boston Marathon, but the former Saved By the Bell star and host of the Extra TV show really picked up the pace for the 2011 New York City Marathon, as he cruised to a 4:23 finish.

One of the most common questions I hear from marathoners in regards to their goal times is, “What do I have to run to beat Oprah’s time?” or “I want to beat Oprah!” Going sub-4:30 is a popular goal time for marathoners anyway, but knowing that they beat Oprah’s marathon time is usually icing on the cake for people who reach that goal.

If you’re hoping to beat a politician’s time and think Bush and Palin’s marks are a little out of your league, Al Gore’s time is a lot more achievable.

Original Star Wars Cast Confirmed For Episode 7 By Lucas

We’ve heard Carrie Fisher is returning to play Princess Leia in Star War: Episode 7 with Harrison Ford possibly coming back as Han Solo as well, but it looks as though the man himself, George Lucas, may have confirmed the big three stars of Star Wars Episode IV – VI in a recent interview.

Lucas talked to Bloomberg Businessweek and was asked if he informed H. Ford, Fisher and Mark Hamill of Lucas Film’s upcoming deal with Disney. “We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison—or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation,” said Lucas. “So I called them to say, ‘Look, this is what’s going on.’ ”

Lucas then realized what he just said and attempted to backtrack, “Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them.” He then threw a curveball to help his backtracking by adding, “I won’t say whether the negotiations were successful or not.”

If what Lucas said at the end is true, we hope Mark Hamill, Ford and Fisher know what their addition to the new films would mean to all Star Wars fans during their negotiations.

Editors note: I always knew that they would not end the franchise because the film industry in general will not end a film franchise that makes money. Hollywood has a simple rule if the first movie made big money…. well they will make a second if possible. (I say “if possible” because Lincoln 2 The Revenge Of The Log Man may not draw Spielberg and Daniel Day Lewis.)

I say all of that to say this, I am jasked out of my mind about having Luke, Han Solo and Princess Leia back in my life. This is exactly what I want in a Episode 7!!! 2015 can’t come fast enough.

Steve Jobs Film to close Sundance

Ashton Kutcher’s typographically unique Steve Jobs biopic “jOBS” will be the closing screening of this year’s Sundance Film Festival, in advance of an April theatrical release, per The Hollywood Reporter. Directed by relative newcomer Joshua Michael Stern, “jOBS” tells the story of Steve Jobs’ journey from college dropout to revered entrepreneurial icon.

This marks Kutcher’s first foray into dramatic roles, unless one counts his turn in “The Butterfly Effect,” so there’s little basis on which to speculate on his effectiveness at playing the Apple co-founder, chairman, and CEO, especially considering it’s not yet known what artistic approach will be taken; Kutcher’s casting could be a stretch, or the approach may be tailored to his more-familiar light comedy talents. The fact that “jOBS” is being released in April rather than November or December, while not an indicator of the film’s prospects in itself, does speak to a desire by its producers to not have “jOBS” compared too immediately to awards-season fare. It is not, of course, proof of the film’s quality. That remains to be seen.

Kutcher is joined in the cast by Josh Gad, Lukas Haas, Matthew Modine, Dermot Mulroney, and J.K. Simmons. The first round of reviews will certainly follow its screening at Sundance later this month.

Apple: Made In USA?

Apple To Start Making Some Mac Computers in America in 2013

Some iMac owners have been finding lately that their computers were “assembled in the USA.”Those U.S.-assembled machines have been few and far between — most still have “assembled in China” tags. But Apple is planning for many more Mac computers to be made in the U.S. next year.

In an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that the Cupertino-based company is investing $100 million in U.S. based manufacturing for its Mac computers. The project will be an entirely new undertaking.

“And next year we are going to bring some production to the U.S. on the Mac. We’ve been working on this for a long time, and we were getting closer to it. It will happen in 2013,” Cook said in an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek’s Josh Tyrangiel. “We could have quickly maybe done just assembly, but it’s broader because we wanted to do something more substantial.”

Apple has manufactured and assembled most of its products in China, and has been widely criticized for the poor working conditions in the factories of its Foxconn contractor there. Apple’s late CEO, Steve Jobs, was quoted by biographer Walter Isaacson as complaining to President Obama that U.S. regulations made it easier to build a factory overseas.

“We’ll literally invest over $100 million. This doesn’t mean that Apple will do it ourselves, but we’ll be working with people, and we’ll be investing our money,” Cook added in the interview.

After the furor began over conditions at Foxconn in China,ABC News’ Bill Weir got an exclusive look at some of its factories in Shenzhen and Chengdu. Since then, Apple, along with the Fair Labor Association, has vowed to make changes to working hours, overtime and more.

Cook elaborated on the progress being made in China in the interview: “I think no one is looking at this as deeply as we are or going as deep in the supply chain. We’re back to the mines. We’re going all the way, not just at the first layer. And in addition to that, we’ve chosen to be incredibly transparent with it. I invite everyone to copy us.”

According to the interview, Apple will bring Mac production to the U.S. — but not iPad or iPhone manufacturing. When asked about making an iPhone in the U.S. at theAll Things D conference in May, Cook pointed out that some parts are made in the U.S., including the Gorilla Glass screen on Apple’s iPhones. Apple has not specified what Mac computer lines — iMac, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, etc. — will be made here.

Along with Apple, Lenovo plans to begin production of its ThinkPad laptops and desktops to the U.S. The company will start assembling and making hardware in early 2013 in Whitsett, North Carolina. As a result, Lenovo plans to hire for 115 manufacturing jobs later this year.

When reached by ABC News, Apple pointed us to the interview and would not elaborate on its 2013 U.S. production plans.
